**Better Call Phoong** now on *Netflix*

[deleted]

Something wrong? Call Ann Phoong! (The show)

Knife_Operator

Every time I see this on those billboards I think of that plane crash news prank with the names like "Sum Ting Wong" and "Ho Li Fuk" and then I feel guilty.

deepermoist

LOL same.

[deleted]

It would be dishonest of me to say the first time I read the billboard I didn’t read it as “Some ting wong? Call Ann Phoong?” And then my wife gave me an awful look and I STFU. Also “Wi Tu Lo” should have been the giveaway to the news networks.

Slpry_Pete

The rhyming billboard slogan always makes me smile. Makes you wonder if she's a criminal lawyer or a *criminal* lawyer

unoriginalgabriel

Not the former, at least. She's a personal injury attorney/ambulance chaser. On the latter, I think I read somewhere (maybe here) that her husband was in some sort of legal trouble not too long ago.

Slpry_Pete

The joke is about Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul

Aratharel

He got the joke. The joke's not funny because she's not a criminal lawyer. The pun makes no sense.

majesticdong11

There’s really no need to put someone down on an attempted joke. I didn’t find it funny but I wouldn’t call someone out on it. Don’t be a bully

Aratharel

Now this, this is PEAK comedy

Slpry_Pete

you're a fun guy

Aratharel

youre not!

Slpry_Pete

you didn't get that joke either

[deleted]

[удалено]

Slpry_Pete

she's a fucking ambulance chasing billboard lawyer who is using the same name rhyme pun as Better Call Saul so excuse me if I don't put her on a pedestal with Atticus Finch

[deleted]

ItsAllSoClear

Don't be an ass.

R_ekd

She just wants you all to know who to call when somethings wrong.

iforgoturpassword

I’ve always found that slogan hilariously general. It makes me want to call her and say, “I’m just not really feeling it today, and I guess I’m supposed to call you?”

OpenRoamer

How do you pronounce Phoong?

R_ekd

I’ll let you know when something goes wrong.

glyptostroboides

Like the sound of a potato gun firing.

OpenRoamer

Lol I'm always going to think this when I see her signs now.

Grouchy-Butterfly-23

The “ph” makes an “f” sound, like the word phone. Phoong = Fong

chikadino1

Even if it has something to do with my dong?

birdmanhorsecow

I was down in Alameda/Oakland recently and saw she has billboards there too.

Papasmurphsjunk

They are down by Stockton too. I'm legit confused by the size of her practice.

erlachglenn

These type of practices often run on referrals. They have a huge ad budget, keep the best cases, refer the rest to other counsel, and then get a cut. Same as Cellino and Barnes, etc

bbtgoss

I think Phoong handles them all. Most probably resolve prior to filing a lawsuit and are mostly handled by non-lawyer staff I'd guess. It's not difficult for one lawyer to supervise a team of paralegals who each have 50-100 such cases.

WoolziesInTheDryer

She runs a ton of tv commercials in the Bay Area.

Curious_Rugburn

My Vietnamese friends hate her ads because she changed the correct way to say Phoong in order to rhyme.

zippy

she'd have to change her line of business. need bail to get sprung? call ann phoong!

Guessimagirl

Interesting. I kinda assumed it wasn't a perfect rhyme, which to me gives a touch of humor to the billboards. Just so that I might be less culturally ignorant, are you able to tell me how Phoong is meant to be pronounced? Vietnamese is one language that I really don't know much of the phonetics of.

Curious_Rugburn

Yeah, I believe it’s pronounced almost by just dropping the “oo” as you say it, like ph-ng with emphasis on the “ng”. Almost like saying “fong” but without saying the hard O sound and dragging out the g sound.

eyeshitunot

What's the correct pronunciation of her name?

OpenRoamer

Ann

Curious_Rugburn

I believe it’s supposed be be like “ff-ng” , or “ph-ng”, with emphasis on the ng sound. Hard for me to write it out.

eyeshitunot

Thank you

Papasmurphsjunk

It's supposed to rhyme? Lol

Curious_Rugburn

Her signs says something like “when something goes wrong, call Ann Phoong!”

MurderBoot

I appreciate her moving her office into Land Park off Riverside but damn if her signage doesn’t match the Art Deco building at all.

cqmetoo

yes! every time i drive by it makes me sad.

diaperpoop_

I first saw her billboards in Stockton when I drive my wife to her workplace. Surprised that her billboards are in Sac now. Haha.

Papasmurphsjunk

I'm pretty sure her office is here, but I could be wrong

UnnecessaryQuoteness

> but I could be wrong You should call Ann Phoong

diaperpoop_

She might have a couple offices then. I think I first saw her billboards like 2 or 3 years ago (that’s when my wife started working in Stockton), then just saw her billboards here in Sac mid last year or so.

Papasmurphsjunk

Just googled her. Has an office here, and went to law school here.

Guessimagirl

I saw one in the bay area today. I think she's prolly got a quite big business.

superdupermanda

Yeah, and her commercials are now airing in the Bay Area.

f1lth4f1lth

SOMETHING WRONG? CALL ANN PHOONG

kamalsingh91

She use to work out at 24hr in Antelope. I would always want to go up to her and say that phrase but didn’t have the courage to do so.

Joeylala

I went to law school with her and her husband. Her husband is no longer allowed to practice law. I’ll leave it at that.

210ent

Wait you can’t just leave it at that!

Joeylala

https://www.justice.gov/usao-edca/pr/fair-oaks-man-sentenced-over-five-years-prison-mortgage-fraud

210ent

Wow that’s crazy . 5 years prison for that . Did she stay with him ? Kinda seems like it would drag down her rep too and we can see it happening right here lol

bbtgoss

Based on Google reviews he's worked at her firm since being sentenced and her last name is still Salcedo, so probably.

210ent

That’s surprising. I remember my lawyer back in Texas had some problems with taking bribes from the cartel and he separated his name from everyone els in his practice because he didn’t want to affect their careers aswell.

bbtgoss

Was her husband ever a licensed attorney? He doesn't show up on the Cal Bar website, which typically shows even disbarred attorneys.

Joeylala

I don’t think he was ever able to get licensed. To get a license you need to submit a moral character application.

bbtgoss

His case must have been going on for some time, then, since she got licensed 3 years prior to his sentencing. Upon looking, it looks like he was indicted in the middle of 2011, probably right around when he would have been initiating his moral character application, assuming he was in the same class as his wife.

H_Krustofsky

I heard she's still practicing because you can't charge a husband and wife for the same crime?

Soulcrux

I am 99% sure she also has a billboard on 99-S when you're approaching Bakersfield (my hometown) so seems like her firm is statewide now lol.

See5harp

Yea, I've seen her billboards all over the state. I honestly never knew she was local because I've seen her face so many places.

Ltstarbuck2

Never thought about it that way but ... yes, yes she is.

asvpmvson

She’s in the bay area too

nwrighteous

There’s a guy in Cleveland, where I grew up, named Tim Misny. He just appears on TV for a split second, pointing at the screen, and says, “I’ll make them pay!” And that’s the whole ad. Apparently his huge mansion is called “Misnyland.” Anyway. Yeah. Edit: Tim, not Tom

[deleted]

I have seen those since I was 8 years old, there’s one on T street (I forget the cross street) that has been in my memory for probably 10-15 years at this point.

OJimmy

Hahahahahahaha. I love this. I have to read her letters at work and I just can't even.

kkierii

Username checks out

lepetitbrie

Her ads always remind me of Morris Bart, a PI lawyer in New Orleans who also had tons of billboards everywhere and cheesy advertising.

Takco0206

She has a billboard in the East Bay. I laughed and called my boyfriend who lives in Sacramento and said “Ann Phoong is in the East Bay!”

gaajiwaaih

If you hire a lawyer based on the number of billboards you see of a particular attorney, you deserve what ever comes next. Let's just say she specializes in "volume."

bbtgoss

Honestly, a volume PI mill that has great customer service is the best type of practice for a lot of people. I wouldn't bother litigating a soft-tissue injury with only chiropractic work and so a firm that typically handles bigger cases is either (1) not going to take the case; or (2) not going to add much value beyond what the volume practice can do.

nmpls

So, she was actually a legal secretary at the public defender's office I used to work at. She was going to Lincoln at the time. I left and moved to socal. It was fucking wacky to move back like 5 years later and see her plastered on billboards everywhere.

whyUtrippin

Something wrong call Ann Phoong

[deleted]

I love her billboards more than anything

phillyboo69187916

I'll stick with David Allen & associates

FI_ICKMYLIFE

My business law professor told me that generally the lawyers who have to put out ads aren’t that good or don’t get enough business and that lawyers usually get plenty of referrals and don’t need to advertise. I can’t say if she’s a good lawyer or not.

andybateshair

Haha totally

spectech10

Been watching Better Call Saul. Such a damn good show. Might even be better than Breaking Bad *gasp*

bluemangroup13

SOMETHING WRONG?!?!?!?!

deepermoist

Call Mosely Collins at 444-4444 for Legal Assistance Jesus Gives Eternal Life best Sacramento ad ever hands down.

-Random_Lurker-

Something Wrong™? Why yes, lots of things in fact... which of them are you referring to? Fascism? Climate change? Racial injustice? The absolute impossibility of finding a v-neck shirt these days? I always found it comical that her ads never actually say what she does. Like is it an advice line or something? Ha.

lectroid

Implying that a *lawyer* might be crooked and engage in deceptive or illegal practices is a pretty bold move.

treeman172

Someting wong call ann phoong

Parking_Meater

Love looking at the beautiful face all around town. Everytime I see the billboards I almost break some penal codes.

Slpry_Pete

Picking up a felony charge to meet a criminal lawyer, dating must be really tough out there ;)

jeromjenkins

This dude got an Asian fetish

Parking_Meater

She is a great looking lady though. Love the smile.

Slpry_Pete

Hey if it works out thats a hell of a meet-cute story. "I robbed a liquor store and ended up with a wife"

Parking_Meater

Yeah I would never commit a crime and I was just making a joke because Ann Phoong is hot. She's a very good looking lady and obviously smart. More power to her and I love her billboard. He also has done a lot for the local community.

Slpry_Pete

I'm just having a little fun.

Parking_Meater

same no idea why the downvotes. Prudes.

wrench006

So I’m not the only one who thought this

510bbygurl

She's in San Francisco too now
